Trustees Dec 08
Bolton Public Library
Board of Trustees
Meeting, December 1, 2008.
Temporary quarters

6:00 p.m.
Present: Bob Zak, Roland Ochsenbein, Chris Sterling
Also Present: Kelly Collins

Agenda Items:
Minutes:
The minutes of the November 3rd, 2008 meeting were approved.

Director’s Report:
Circulation for November was 3,604, down from 3,904 for November 2007. Kelly noted that according to Cheryl Hanson, director at Charlton Public Library, they experienced a similar drop in circulation while in temporary quarters.
Kelly turned in the FY10 budget by the due date, 11/13/08.
She also submitted to the director of DPW a list of custodial duties for the new building. DPW has proposed that the custodians come in during evening hours. Kelly has stated that morning hours are preferable for supervisory reasons, and also to avoid disrupting evening meetings in the library.
Storytime in the temporary quarters has been decreased to one session per week. Some new preschoolers have been attending, and the environment for storytime is much improved over the old building. The storytime kids will decorate the library’s wreath donation to the Historical Society’s annual sale.

LCC:
Construction is moving right along.

FY10 Budget:
At 7 p.m. the trustees were joined by Burt Shnitzler and David Lindsay from the Advisory Committee to discuss the budget. It was noted that the largest increase was in wages. Burt suggested that the library look into using participants in the town’s Senior Tax Rebate Program to fill some of the hours. David thought that the heating costs should be revisited. David also suggested that the new building start-up costs for CWMARS and IT, totaling about $15,000 should be taken out of the budget, and presented to the annual town meeting as a bond issue. This would also lower the amount needed to be spent on books and materials, since this is a percentage of the library budget.

Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be Monday, January 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the temporary quarters.

Respectfully submitted, the Trustees,

Robert Zak                                            Roland Ochsenbein                     Christine Sterling
